The Tourism Industry Association of Canada has named Pat Corbett, founder of The Hills Health Ranch with his wife Juanita, to the Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame | 108 Mile, BC...The Tourism Industry Association of Canada has named Pat Corbett, founder of The Hills Health Ranch with his wife Juanita, to the Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame. He will be officially inducted at a special ceremony on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 in Ottawa as part of Tourism Week in Canada.
"This is an honour of overwhelming proportions" said Corbett, "our vision in the early 80's to create a unique Canadian resort focused on health, fitness, and lifestyle changes in a ranch & ski environment was certainly a first for our country. Working together with my wife, we have been surrounded by a great staff of very dedicated people to deliver memorable fitness, smoking cessation, weight loss, ski, hiking & horseback riding vacation experiences for thousands of guests over our 25 years. Being inducted as a part of the Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame is humbling beyond belief for me". Created in 2006 by the Tourism Industry Association of Canada and presented by Air Canada and Deloitte, the Canadian Tourism Hall of Fame publicly recognizes those individuals that have made tourism an important part of their life's work and whose actions have had a positive impact on the industry they serve.
Corbett has played an important role in helping the tourism & spa industry to develop and work in more coordinated and unified approaches through his life's work in many industry associations and organizations at the international, national, provincial, and regional level. "I have been committed to help our industry gain a more prominent voice in all matters of public policy & industry awareness, desiring to have more effective partnerships with governments & media at all levels, through an organized, unified, and strategic approach" he added. " We have always seen the connection between better public policy & awareness at all levels towards our industry and the bottom line in our own business, so my wife and I have always ensured that we were contributing with our available time, talent, and money" Corbett said.
